Abstract
The article focuses on the Miranda Family's philanthropic initiative, Colectivo, aimed at increasing Latino representation in the film industry. Despite Latinos comprising 19% of the U.S. population and 24% of movie-ticket buyers, they hold fewer than 5% of film-industry roles. Colectivo, in partnership with Tribeca Studios and the Hispanic Federation, will support three emerging Latino filmmakers with funding and mentorship, culminating in the premiere of their short films at the Tribeca Festival. The initiative also involves participants from the Miranda Family Fellows program, which provides scholarships and training to individuals from underrepresented communities in the arts.
