Abstract
The article reports on a devastating landslide that occurred in the village of Tarasin in Sudan's western Darfur region, resulting in at least 1,000 fatalities, as stated by the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A). The disaster followed heavy rainfall in the Jebel Marra area during the last week of August, with only one reported survivor. The SLM/A has called for assistance from the United Nations and other aid organizations to help recover bodies still trapped under the rubble. The Jebel Marra region has been a refuge for many fleeing the ongoing conflict in Darfur, which escalated in April 2023 due to a power-sharing dispute between government forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, leading to a severe humanitarian crisis.
