Warm ocean tides are eating away at 'doomsday glacier' in Antarctica.

Abstract
Satellite data has revealed that warm ocean tides are causing the Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica, also known as the "doomsday glacier," to melt at a faster rate than previously thought. The intrusion of seawater beneath the glacier is melting it from below, making it more vulnerable to collapse. The Thwaites Glacier is already responsible for 4% of global sea level rise, and its disintegration could lead to a rise of over 3 meters in global ocean levels. The study, led by glaciologist Eric Rignot, used radar data collected by satellites to analyze the movements and changes in surface elevation of the glacier. The findings suggest that current projections for the glacier's retreat have been too conservative. [Extracted from the article]
