Abstract
Rainfall was less than 20% of the average over most of central and southern England as well as eastern parts of Wales; only in northwest Scotland, more influenced by moist Atlantic airflows, was rainfall near to or rather above average. The anticyclone had drifted into Europe by the 12th, with a southerly airflow developing, and although there was patchy mist and low cloud, especially in the east, temperatures widely exceeded 13°C where skies were brighter. The mean sea-level pressure chart indicates that the main Atlantic low was displaced towards southern Greenland, and southwesterly airflows influenced the weather at times, especially over northern and western Scotland.
