Abstract

World's Greatest PlacesBritish virgin islands A Luxury ComebackIn 2017, Hurricanes Irma and Maria pummeled Peter Island, leaving a trail of devastation and shuttering family-owned Peter Island Resort for the next seven years. David Van Andel, who grew up on the isle and is president of the resort, recalls crying upon surveying the damage to the property, which for more than four decades has employed generations of BVI families and been a mainstay of Caribbean luxury travel. In December, the resort finally reopened, complete with a yacht club and an oceanfront spa.—Lindsay Lambert [Extracted from the article]
