Abstract
The article focuses on *Giants in the Wind*, a fictionalized narrative by artist Lael Corbin that explores his evolving relationship with wind, landscape, and art-making in the deserts of the American West, particularly the Anza-Borrego Desert. Central to the work are the Santa Ana winds, a meteorological phenomenon originating from the Great Basin, which Corbin engages with through handcrafted sculptural objects designed to interact physically with the wind. The project frames artistic practice as a dialogic and collaborative process with natural forces, emphasizing presence, adaptation, and humility rather than control or mastery. Through poetic and philosophical reflections, the narrative highlights the interplay between performance, play, and environmental phenomena, illustrating how creativity can emerge from openness to failure and transformation.
