Abstract

The article reports on the withdrawal of French troops from Niger, marking the end of over a decade of French anti-jihadist operations in the Sahel region. Following a coup in July, Niger's new rulers have scaled back security cooperation with Western partners and strengthened ties with neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso. The ousted president, Mohamed Bazoum, remains under house arrest, but the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has ordered his immediate release and a return to constitutional order. The article also mentions ongoing unrest in Niger, including attacks by suspected jihadists and military operations against militants. [Extracted from the article]
