Abstract
The article focuses on the Near-Earth Object (NEO) Surveyor mission, which aims to detect potentially hazardous asteroids that could threaten Earth. Led by Amy Mainzer, the mission was approved in 2022 and is set to launch in September 2027. NEO Surveyor will utilize infrared technology to identify asteroids that are often obscured by the Sun's glare, with the goal of locating nearly all near-Earth asteroids at least 140 meters in size, known as "city killers." The mission is part of a broader effort in planetary defense, which has gained bipartisan support due to the potential catastrophic consequences of asteroid impacts. [Extracted from the article]
