Abstract

Hurricane Milton has challenged scientists' ability to predict rapid intensification in storms. The storm rapidly strengthened, becoming one of the most powerful hurricanes on record in the Atlantic basin. This phenomenon, known as rapid intensification, is becoming more common due to climate change and the supercharging of ocean heat. While models have improved in predicting storm intensity, events like Hurricane Milton highlight the need for further research and better understanding of the processes that drive rapid intensification. The lack of observational data and the use of new technologies, such as autonomous robots and artificial intelligence, are being explored to improve hurricane forecasting.
