Abstract
The article reports on a devastating landslide that occurred in the village of Tarasin in the Jebel Marra area of western Darfur, Sudan, resulting in at least 1,000 fatalities, as stated by the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A). The landslide was triggered by intense rainfall in late August, and only one person is reported to have survived. The SLM/A has called for assistance from the United Nations and other aid organizations to help recover bodies still trapped under debris. The ongoing conflict in Sudan, which began in April 2023 between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has led to significant loss of life and displacement, with the UN labeling the situation as the world's worst humanitarian crisis. The army-backed government has expressed condolences and committed to providing support to those affected by the disaster. [Extracted from the article]
