Abstract
This article focuses on a 2014 study of Radon (222Rn) dynamics and related meteorological parameters during the monsoon season in urban Bengaluru, India. Using the AlphaGUARD PQ 2000 PRO device and meteorological data from ISRO's Mini Boundary Layer Mast and Automatic Weather Station, the study found that Radon activity exhibits clear diurnal patterns influenced by temperature inversion and vertical mixing, with higher concentrations during the north eastern monsoon due to continental air masses. Radon levels showed a negative correlation with rainfall, soil temperature, and ambient temperature, while ambient gamma radiation displayed a modest increase following precipitation events. The findings highlight the impact of precipitation and atmospheric stability on Radon behavior and suggest potential applications in atmospheric physics and environmental radiation studies.
