Abstract
Several top ski resorts in Europe, such as Zermatt in Switzerland and Val d'Isere in France, had to close due to heavy snow increasing the risk of avalanches in the western Alps. Climate change has caused Europe to warm twice as fast as the global average since the 1980s, leading to more intense storms and less snowfall in the Alps. The closure of resorts and disruption of transportation due to snow and fallen trees have impacted the region, but the weather is expected to clear up, potentially improving skiing conditions for the Easter weekend.
