Abstract

The article discusses the urgent challenges facing environmental professionals and humanity due to ongoing biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution, among other issues. It highlights that only 17% of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets are on track, with many others showing little progress or regression. The Planetary Health Check Report indicates that six out of nine planetary processes have exceeded their safe boundaries, emphasizing the critical state of Earth's ecosystems. The article calls for immediate and coordinated changes in behavior to address these interconnected environmental and societal issues, positioning environmental scientists as key players in facilitating science-informed decision-making for sustainable management.
