Abstract

In 4 parts and 13 chapters, this book explores the invention of economics as a university discipline in the UK (with some comparative discussion of other countries when relevant). According to Tribe, Marshall's vision of what an economics education would or could be was quickly superseded by the influence of economics at the LSE. Part of Tribe's core argument is that economics became what it is today despite Marshall's intent, but it is not especially clear what Tribe thinks about the current state of economics.
