Abstract
This article evaluates the potential cost savings for patients using the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company (MCCPDC) for erectile dysfunction medications sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil. MCCPDC, launched in 2022, offers transparent drug pricing based on manufacturing cost plus a fixed markup and fees, bypassing health insurance. The study compared MCCPDC prices to local and mail-order pharmacies, a telemedicine provider (Roman), and insurance-based out-of-pocket costs using national data sources. Results showed MCCPDC provided the lowest prices for sildenafil and tadalafil, with savings of about $10 per prescription compared to the next cheapest option and substantially lower costs than Roman, but it was not the cheapest for vardenafil. The findings suggest MCCPDC’s pricing model may offer meaningful savings for patients and could inform provider counseling on erectile dysfunction treatment options.
