Abstract

The article focuses on the recent connection of the first section of the Northern Interceptor wastewater pipeline to the Rosedale Wastewater Treatment Plant by civil contractor SEIPP Construction for Watercare. This $25 million project enables wastewater from Hobsonville to be diverted directly to Rosedale instead of the Mangere plant, improving network resilience and reducing overflows. The construction involved complex excavation around the existing Wairau Valley Branch Sewer, using steel supports and sheet piling to maintain infrastructure stability. Watercare plans further extensions of the Northern Interceptor and upgrades to the Rosedale plant to support Auckland's north-west growth through 2040.
