Abstract
This article examines the impact of economic globalization on energy intensity—an indicator of energy efficiency—in Nepal from 1990 to 2019. Using econometric methods including dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS), fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS), and canonical cointegrating regression (CCR), the study finds that increased economic globalization significantly reduces Nepal's energy intensity, suggesting improved energy efficiency. Additionally, commercial energy use negatively affects energy intensity, while urban population growth has a positive effect, increasing energy intensity. The findings highlight the role of globalization in promoting energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy in Nepal, offering insights for policymakers addressing energy dependency, energy poverty, and sustainable energy management.
