Abstract
This article examines the presence of references to excrement in Karl Marx's writings and correspondence, arguing that these references are connected to broader political, historical, and economic concerns. It explores the metaphorical use of excrement in Marx's work, particularly in relation to political economy and the global financial crisis of 1857. The article also discusses Marx's analysis of historical events and his use of theatrical language and parody. The author, Ansgar Mohnkern, is an Assistant Professor of German at the University of Amsterdam and has expertise in German literature, philosophy, and film. [Extracted from the article]
