Abstract

This article focuses on the use of neuropsychological assessments in diagnosing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) among racial and ethnic minority children in the United States. It highlights disparities in diagnosis timing and rates, as well as differences in parent and teacher symptom ratings by race, which contribute to delayed treatment and misdiagnosis, particularly among Black and Brown students. The study emphasizes the need for culturally informed neuropsychological evaluations to address these disparities and improve equitable behavioral health services. Early intervention is noted as crucial for better outcomes, yet there is a shortage of neuropsychologists trained to manage the cultural complexities of diverse populations.
