Abstract

We (the editors) both have long been interested in the question of what it means when men enter women-dominated spaces and the idea that some men teeter between navigating the privilege of masculinity and the stigma of engaging with femininity. On the elasticity of gender hegemony: Why hybrid masculinities fail to undermine gender and sexual inequality. Introduction to the special issue: "Practicing privilege, subverting stigma: Men in women-dominated spaces" While important topics on which to focus research and efforts for social change, we feel that leisure is also a critical site for gender dynamics that has been underexplored because we too believe "gender inequality is recreated through everyday social relations" (Ridgeway & Correll, [18], p. 512).
