Google's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy and "EDI Solutionism": An Intersectional Feminist Political Economy Analysis.

Abstract
This article critically examines Google's equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) policy through an intersectional feminist political economy lens, highlighting contradictions between the company's stated EDI commitments and its enduring practices. It argues that Google's EDI framework serves as a strategic response to criticisms about inequities in its workforce, technological products, and monopoly power, but ultimately functions as "EDI solutionism"—a corporate tactic that co-opts identity politics to enhance brand image and profit without disrupting systemic inequalities. Despite initiatives aimed at increasing representation and inclusive product design, Google's leadership remains predominantly male and white, its platforms continue to host sexist and racist content, and its profit-driven structure perpetuates class and socio-economic disparities. The article concludes that meaningful change at Google depends less on top-down EDI policies and more on bottom-up collective action by workers and communities challenging the company's broader power and practices.
