Abstract

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service (ERS) underwent significant upheaval under the Trump administration, with a relocation from Washington, D.C., to Kansas City causing the loss of experienced staff and institutional knowledge. Despite the challenges, ERS managed to rebuild its staff by 2022, with a focus on attracting new talent and maintaining high standards. The move had a profound impact on the agency's work, leading to changes in research focus and output, as well as affecting morale and culture among employees. [Extracted from the article]
