Abstract
The article focuses on Navajo Technical University's (NTU) Center for Advanced Manufacturing and its innovative technician-to-engineer-to-scientist educational progression designed to combat brain drain from the Navajo Nation by providing advanced manufacturing training and research opportunities on ancestral lands. NTU integrates hands-on experience with sophisticated equipment, such as metal additive manufacturing machines and CT scanners, while emphasizing a holistic approach aligned with Indigenous educational values. Partnerships with major universities and national labs enable students to pursue advanced degrees and research without leaving the reservation, supporting local economic development. The program aims to create sustainable, small-scale, high-value manufacturing businesses that reflect Navajo cultural traditions, though challenges remain in infrastructure such as broadband, roads, and utilities.
