Abstract

The article examines how Richard Jones, a British political economist and clergyman, engaged with William Whewell, a philosopher of science and polymath, to redefine political economy. Topics discussed include Jones's innovative use of historical and ethnographic methods in political economy, his critique of David Ricardo's economic theories, and his influence on Karl Marx's development of political economy and on colonial agrarian policy in British India.
