Abstract

This article examines the concept of "anarchist domesticity," focusing on American anarcha-feminist "consent zines" that address sexual assault and interpersonal violence as sites of political contestation within domestic spaces. These zines embody a do-it-yourself (DIY) ethos that extends beyond cultural production into a DIY politics, offering alternative, community-based responses to violence that reject state criminal justice systems. The texts combine personal testimonies and political reflections, often adopting fragmented forms that reflect the challenges of representing trauma and navigating power dynamics ingrained in intimate relationships. Positioned within a broader historical and literary tradition of anarchist critique of domesticity, consent zines articulate the home as a space simultaneously marked by violence and potential for radical transformation, highlighting their ongoing relevance in contemporary discussions of gender violence and accountability.
