Abstract

The article explores wage theft as a labor determinant of health in the U.S. Topics discussed include minimum wage violations, falling and stagnating wages among lower- and middle-income workers as a characterization of the U.S. economy and its link to social and political problems, vertical gap between gross domestic product (GDP) and wage lines, public health implications of wage trends such as deaths of despair, reliance on subsidies and income inequality, and ways to combat wage theft.
