Abstract

This article focuses on research examining the relationships between employment status, psychological and financial well-being, and depressive symptoms among autistic adults in the United States, with attention to racial differences. Using survey data from 710 autistic job seekers, the study found that 34.9% were employed, and over half of those employed met criteria for underemployment. While overall depressive symptoms and well-being did not significantly differ by employment status, race/ethnicity moderated these effects, with fully employed Asian American participants reporting fewer depressive symptoms than their underemployed peers. The study highlights the complex interplay between employment and well-being among diverse autistic individuals. [Extracted from the article]
