Abstract
This article focuses on prescribing patterns and accessibility of hormone therapies among providers affiliated with the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH). A survey of 55 ISSWSH providers, including obstetrics-gynecology, urology, family medicine, and urogynecology specialists, revealed varied use of topical and systemic hormone replacement therapies (HRT) such as estrogen and testosterone, as well as non-hormonal treatments like gabapentin and valium. Family medicine providers reported the highest rates of prescribing estrogen-containing systemic therapies, while urologists most frequently prescribed systemic testosterone. Most providers also counsel patients on cost-saving programs to improve medication affordability. The study suggests further research is needed on pharmacy practices and patient access barriers to optimize treatment availability.
