Abstract
This article presents "Just Play," a dyadic drama therapy play intervention designed to promote free play and playfulness between children with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD) and their parents. Unlike existing interventions that focus on developmental goals and skill-building, "Just Play" emphasizes play as an intrinsic value and encourages spontaneous, mutual play interactions without didactic aims. The intervention, grounded in drama therapy and Developmental Transformations (DvT), consists of eight weekly sessions led by trained therapists who support parents in joining their children's play to foster enjoyment and strengthen parent–child relationships. Clinical vignettes illustrate challenges and successes in facilitating playful engagement, highlighting the potential of this approach to enhance parental perceptions and interactions with children with IDD.
