Abstract
This article examines the impact of self-reported attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and/or learning disorder (ADHD/LD) on performance validity testing (PVT) among NCAA athletes during baseline cognitive assessments. The study found that athletes with ADHD/LD reported more symptoms, had less sleep, and showed poorer performance on certain cognitive measures, with a higher likelihood of failing multiple PVT indicators compared to neurotypical athletes. However, failure rates for a single PVT indicator were similar between groups. The findings highlight the complexity of interpreting PVT results in athletes with ADHD/LD and suggest that further research is needed to distinguish between poor effort and cognitive effects related to neurodevelopmental diagnoses.
