Abstract
This article focuses on the importance of investing in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), defined as the foundational digital platforms—such as unique ID registries, payments systems, and data exchange networks—that enable scalable, inclusive digital services. Drawing on examples like India's digital payments revolution and Estonia's secure data exchange system, it highlights DPI's potential to accelerate sustainable development goals, enhance productivity, and improve emergency response. The article emphasizes that successful DPI requires coordinated public-private partnerships leveraging open-source digital public goods, expert collaboration, and targeted investments in priority applications, while addressing challenges such as digital divides, funding constraints, and political alignment. It argues that DPI represents a critical 21st-century infrastructure comparable to railways and roads, necessitating innovative cooperation among governments, businesses, and civil society.
