Abstract
This article focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of microlearning—an instructional approach that delivers bite-sized learning units—for adult students in higher education. Conducted at a Singapore university with primarily part-time adult learners enrolled in a research methods course, the study found that microlearning significantly improved students' knowledge and confidence in writing research proposals. Participants reported that the microlearning modules were convenient to fit into their schedules, appropriately brief, and engaging, with over 76% recommending the approach to peers. The findings suggest that microlearning aligns well with adult learners' needs for flexible, self-directed study and may help overcome common barriers such as limited time and low confidence.
