Abstract
This article focuses on a narrative review examining therapeutic approaches for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS) in women survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV). The review, conducted by researchers at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, identified 19 studies addressing PTSD treatments—primarily psychotherapeutic and mindfulness-based interventions—but found no IPV-specific studies targeting PPCS. Due to limited IPV-specific evidence, findings related to PPCS were extrapolated from research on military veterans, athletes, and general traumatic brain injury populations. The authors emphasize the need for validated, trauma-informed therapies that address both PTSD and PPCS in IPV survivors before clinical recommendations can be established.
