Abstract
This article examines the alignment between the American Medical Informatics Association's (AMIA) foundational domains and the delineation of practice (DoP) for health informatics. The foundational domains guide graduate-level curriculum development and accreditation by defining minimum competencies, while the DoP outlines the domains, tasks, knowledge, and skills required for competent professional practice. Through systematic mapping, the study found that although the two frameworks differ in structure and emphasis, all DoP knowledge statements and tasks could be aligned with the foundational domains, with notable underrepresentation in the domain of Social and Behavioral Aspects of Health. The findings suggest that the foundational domains serve as broad educational foci, whereas the DoP reflects applied professional practice, supporting harmonization for use in certification, education, and workforce development in health informatics.
