Abstract
The article Public Schools, Private Governance: Education Reform and Democracy in New Orleans examines the privatization of New Orleans' school system, particularly through the implementation of charter schools. Topics include the historical roots of school privatization in New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina, the selective admissions process and its exclusionary effects, and the critique of school choice as a market-driven model that undermines democratic engagement.
