Abstract
This article focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of a professional development training program for a higher education professor in the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (UACH), México, integrating Adventure Education (AE) content through the Model of Development and Evaluation of Academic Competencies (M-DECA). Using a participatory action research design, the study identified the need to update pedagogical planning and disciplinary content in a Physical Education and Games course, subsequently developing a five-module training program emphasizing outdoor recreational activities and AE methodologies. Findings indicate that the training enhanced the professor’s pedagogical and disciplinary competencies, promoted reflective teaching practices, and introduced innovative content that stimulated student motivation and engagement. The study highlights the importance of continuous, context-specific professional development for PETE faculty to improve educational quality and suggests further research using mixed methods and case studies to evaluate teaching performance across subjects.
