Abstract
In the research of quality education, the ontological exploration of educational research objects is an important fundamental issue. Educational research is guided by the core competency goals that encompass essential qualities and key abilities of students. Under the background of the Pilot Reform Program of Enrollment for Basic Disciplines (the ‘Pilot Reform Program’), the cultivation of core competencies in Earth Science for middle school students is an important measure to implement the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents, and it is also an urgent need to comply with the trend of global education reform and development and enhance China's international competitiveness in education. Thoroughly comparing and analyzing the epistemological roots of the reform of core literacy education in Earth Science, reflecting on the current effectiveness of Earth Science literacy education, and proposing several suggestions to provide reference for innovating the paradigm of Earth Science education and improving the level of Earth Science teaching.
