Abstract
The article focuses on the Junior Curators pilot program, a collaboration between Waco Independent School District's gifted and talented (GT) program and the Mayborn Museum, a Smithsonian Affiliate, designed to enhance elementary GT students' research skills through museum-based learning. Over six weeks, 54 students in grades 1–5 engaged in independent research on museum artifacts aligned with their interests, using the 5W + 1H method, culminating in a public exhibit and student-led presentations at the museum. The program demonstrated how museum partnerships can foster student agency, critical thinking, family engagement, and community access to cultural resources, supporting interdisciplinary approaches that connect formal education with informal learning environments.
