Abstract
The article focuses on Ofqual’s intention to fine Pearson £250,000 for breaching exam regulations in 2023 that protect students and exam integrity. Pearson failed to identify conflicts of interest involving 195 examiners who also tutored students under the Government’s National Tutoring Programme and did not fully safeguard exam paper confidentiality in six instances. Although no direct impact on students was found, Pearson admitted to breaching its legally required Conditions of Recognition and has since implemented measures to prevent recurrence. Ofqual’s enforcement panel deemed the fine appropriate due to the seriousness of the breaches and Pearson’s prior knowledge of the risks.
