Abstract

The article discusses how word study has evolved into a playful, integrated approach that supports phonics, vocabulary, and spelling development across subjects while encouraging students to actively explore. Topics include the evolution of word study from memorization-based spelling to integrated literacy instruction; playful, movement-based, and game-like classroom strategies for building word consciousness; and ways content-area teachers can embed vocabulary learning.
