Abstract
In her book "1848: Erfolgsgeschichte einer gescheiterten Revolution," Alexandra Bleyer argues that revolutions can take different forms and have different causes, but they all involve conflicts within a society. She believes that the uprisings and democratic rebellions of 1848 should be seen as a single event with a long build-up, rather than separate and spontaneous events. Bleyer also argues that despite its failures, the revolution of 1848 had a lasting impact on Europe, leading to the establishment of fundamental rights, the abolition of censorship and religious discrimination, and increased political participation. The book includes a variety of perspectives, including those of women, and explores the interplay between different actors and the development of new identities and solidarities.
