Abstract

This article focuses on research from the University of Leon in Spain examining barriers and support strategies for autistic students in higher education, particularly in STEM fields like engineering. The study highlights challenges such as sensory sensitivities, social isolation, and limited individualized support, and recommends inclusive practices based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and input from autistic students. It advocates for a holistic support system incorporating flexible curricula, educator training, peer mentoring, social skills training, counseling, and parental guidance to promote equity and academic success. The research addresses a gap in non-English-speaking contexts and has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
