Abstract

The article discusses research on the role of evidence integration in argumentative writing among Chinese undergraduates learning English as a second language (L2). Conducted at Anhui Science and Technology University, the study analyzed 542 timed essays to explore how different types of evidence—framing and supporting—affect writing quality across varying proficiency levels. Findings indicate that while framing evidence was predominant, only mid-proficiency writers showed a significant correlation between evidence type and writing scores. The research suggests that instructional focus should shift from the quantity of evidence to the quality of evidence selection and integration in writing. [Extracted from the article]
