Abstract

The article focuses on the CybHER program, which aims to expand access to cybersecurity education and increase female participation in the field. Over the past decade, CybHER has implemented various initiatives, including CybHER Days, Camps, and After-School Clubs, designed to engage students from middle school through college, particularly targeting girls and underrepresented communities. The program has seen significant success, evidenced by a 350 percent increase in female enrollment at Dakota State University’s Beacom College of Computer & Cyber Sciences from 2013 to 2023, highlighting the effectiveness of early and sustained engagement in building a diverse cybersecurity workforce. The article emphasizes the importance of mentorship, hands-on learning, and community outreach in addressing the cybersecurity workforce shortage and fostering a more inclusive environment in STEM fields.
