Abstract

The article focuses on a systematic review examining the teacher-student relationship (TSR) from an attachment perspective and its impact on academic outcomes, particularly for vulnerable student populations. Conducted by researchers from the Pontifical University in Madrid, Spain, the study analyzed 37 longitudinal studies to assess how TSR influences academic (dis)engagement, (under)achievement, and early school leaving (ESL). The findings indicate that positive TSRs are crucial for fostering academic success, especially among students facing social vulnerabilities, special needs, and mental health challenges. The research emphasizes the need for targeted interventions to enhance TSR quality, which can serve as a protective factor against educational disengagement and underachievement.
