Abstract

The article examines how the school choice system in Boston Public Schools (BPS) perpetuates racial inequities through a process termed "racism of omission." It highlights that while the system is designed to empower families to make informed school choices, frontline staff at Welcome Centers often fail to provide essential information, particularly to families of color and those with limited resources. This lack of support is attributed to bureaucratic constraints, outdated information, and a culture that prioritizes efficiency over equitable service, ultimately reinforcing existing disparities in access to quality education.
