Abstract
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has released a report on the costs and risks associated with using electronic payment platforms to add money to school lunch accounts. The report highlights that while cashless payment systems can reduce administrative costs for school districts, they may result in increased costs for students and their families. The report also raises concerns about limited competition among payment processors, which allows for high fees and disproportionately affects low-income families. The CFPB hopes that the report will help school districts avoid contracts with financial firms that impose excessive fees on families purchasing school lunch. [Extracted from the article]
