Abstract
The article focuses on the evolution of instructional design into learning design and the emergence of learning experience design (LXD) within workplace learning and development. Learning design shifts the emphasis from content delivery to a learner-centered approach, promoting autonomy and personalized learning experiences based on advances in learning sciences. LXD, derived from learning design and human–computer interaction, prioritizes the learner's experience by integrating cognitive psychology, user experience principles, and technology to create engaging, adaptive, and meaningful educational journeys. The article highlights the differing roles and competencies of instructional designers in higher education versus corporate settings and underscores the importance of collaboration, creativity, and ethical responsibility in designing effective learning experiences. Establishing a shared definition of LXD is presented as essential for aligning stakeholders and fostering continuous improvement in learner-centered design practices.
