Abstract
This article focuses on the potential use of psilocybin as a first-line treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults. It reviews literature comparing traditional stimulant medications, which target dopamine and noradrenaline receptors but often cause significant side effects, with microdosing psilocybin, which acts on serotonin receptors and may present fewer adverse effects. The review highlights psilocybin's neurological mechanisms and its promise as an alternative treatment when stimulant medications are ineffective or poorly tolerated. Limitations of current stimulant treatments are also discussed.
