Abstract
This article examines the role of community radio, specifically Orisun 89.5 FM in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, in post-conflict peacebuilding following the longstanding Ife–Modakeke crises. It focuses on the radio’s alternative dispute resolution (ADR) programme, Aye Re, which uses negotiation, arbitration, and mediation to resolve conflicts and promote harmony among the Yoruba communities of Ife and Modakeke. The study, based on surveys and interviews with radio staff, listeners, and conflict survivors, found that a majority of respondents were aware of and positively perceived the ADR programme, with many adopting its mechanisms to avoid violent escalation. The findings suggest that Orisun 89.5 FM has been effective in educating listeners about the negative impacts of conflict and fostering peaceful coexistence, recommending increased broadcast frequency and community engagement to sustain peacebuilding efforts.
